I. THE BIBLICAL RECORD

Writer's picture: Daryl E. SellDaryl E. Sell

GENESIS 7:19-20 "And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth and all the high mountains that were under the whole heaven were covered. 15 cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered."

A. 15 cubits is the depth to which the ark sank when fully laden.

B. The flood prevailed over the tops of all the highest mountains to at least 15 cubits.

The rain lasted 40 days and nights. The water continued to rise for an additional 110 days. The waters receded 74 days until the tops of the mountains were visible. (Gen. 8:5) 40 days later, Noah sent out the raven. 21 days lapsed till Noah sent out the dove for the third time. Another 29 days lapsed. From the removal of the covering of the ark to the very end of the experience, was an additional 57 days (Gen. 8:14) . The total time adds up to 371 days until the land was dry and they could disembark.

II. THE LOGICAL CONCLUSION

The human race in the time between Adam and Noah had spread far beyond the Near East, in fact around the world.

A. The Scriptures clearly state that the purpose of the flood was to wipe out a sinful and degenerate humanity and this could not have been accomplished by destroying just a portion of the population.

B. The fact that Noah and his family are recorded in Scripture as the only survivors demonstrates the world-wide effect of the flood. This fact is emphasized by the Apostle Peter (I Peter 3:20; II Peter 2:5).

Those who promote a local flood are skeptics who do not believe God's Word. They also ignore or pervert geological, archaeological, and Paleontological evidence. By the way, there is no such thing as prehistoric There has been an historic record since Adam and Eve.
