A dear friend of mine, of whom I have high regard, got caught up in a belief system of which I strongly disagree. This man has been used greatly by the Lord as both a pastor and missionary. He is solid in doctrine concerning salvation, eternal security, holy living, etc. He takes a good stand on the inspiration and preservation of God's Word. He was bold in smuggling a trunk load of Bibles into an extremist Muslim country where, if caught, he might well have been executed.
However, he got caught up in a heretical doctrine called geo centricism, which teaches that the earth is the physical center of the universe.
They claim that the sun, planets, and stars revolve around the earth. This kind of thinking brings harsh criticism from the scientific and intellectual community upon orthodox Christianity. We know that this theory is ridiculously false, especially since we have entered the present space age.
The one point I did bring up about geo centricism is that we know that the earth revolves around the sun in 365 1/4 days per year, and that the earth is tilted on its axis to bring us the 4 seasons. Yet, when one contemplates on the depth of these astronomical facts, it brings us to a logical conclusion: that for some reason known only to Him, the earth is in the spiritual center of God's universe. This planet is at the exact distance from the sun to enable life to exist with all of its extensive intricacies. In
all of their astronomical research, science has yet to find any other planet so perfectly and strategically located so as to support life as we know it and too often take for granted.
Even more intriguing than the afore mentioned fact is that not only is planet earth at the center of God's purpose in His creation, but man is at the very center thereof. The writer of Hebrews, probably the Apostle Paul, quotes from Psalm 8:4-6 when he says, "What is man that Thou art mindful of him? or the Son of Man that Thou visiteth him? Hebrews 2:6) The answer to that question is found in Genesis 1:26-27. We are made in God's own image. We were in Adam in seed form when he and Eve fell in sin in the Garden of Eden. God then sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, the Son of God and Son of Man, to redeem us unto Himself.
A POINT TO PONDER:
The median between the microscopic world and the telescopic world is about 6 feet, about the height of mankind.
